Boko Haram Ambush In Borno Claims Lives Of Newly Promoted Lieutenant Colonel, Six Other Soldiers
At least seven Nigerian soldiers, including a newly promoted Lieutenant Colonel, have been kill!ed following a deadly amb@sh by Boko Haram terr@rists in Borno State.
Sources disclosed that the attack occurred on Monday, January 26, 2026, as troops were travelling from Maiduguri to Damasak in Mobbar Local Government Area.
The soldiers, led by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed—who was recently promoted from the rank of Major—were reportedly on a surveillance mission following intell!igence that insurgents were active in the area.
Military sources said the convoy was ambushed using explosives and heavy gunfire, leaving several soldiers dead on the spot. In addition to the fatalities, many personnel sustained serious injuries, while an undisclosed number of soldiers are still missing.
According to a source, the bodies of the fallen soldiers have been deposited at the 7 Division Hospital, Maiduguri. It was also revealed that the att@ckers took away the late commander's mobile phone, and when senior officers later attempted to reach him, the call was reportedly answered by Boko Haram fig!hters.
